Our approach to Product Development
Contrary to Manufacturing, Product Development is a complex activity. Indeed, we usually say that manufacturing is an activity of hand eyes because it consist in performing activities with hand (manipulate products) and eyes (control). Manufacturing activity doesn’t really require high technical skills, it more rely on the respect of processes implementation and inspection. On the opposite, product development requires skills, a very good common sense, engineering background, quality management and manufacturing knowledge so that the product can be designed in a way to satisfy both customers, manufacturers and certifications entities.
What differentiate a good product development team from a bad one is that the good one will anticipate very early in the process all the bottlenecks and key risk factors which will slow down the product development process. For example, inexperienced product designer or engineers may design product which the structure, shape or material used can not be manufactured or can not be certified.
Our philosophy is to take in consideration all those parameters very early on in the process so endless reworking and modification can be avoided at the maximum. We work with guidelines, checklist, process, standard and data analysis, not just with gut feeling…
Our product development philosophy for hardware
- We usually approach project with investor eyes. Not only do we look at them with technical and financial aspects, but we also look at them with marketing, final user sight and design aspect.
- We know that 80% of quality issues on product are due to design
- We develop and design product for customers, not for engineers. It particularly means that we take in consideration localization of the user
- We believe in passion for design and engineering leading to better products
- We believe Design For Six Sigma should be impelemented for each project, this particularly include Quality Function Deployment and Design For Six Sgima
- We believe engineering and conceptual design should mix themselves together so the product can be optimized
- We believe in design and engineering optimization, modularity and Design For Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) to optimize production and reduce mistake
- When we design a product, we take in consideration customer requirement, manufacturing requirement and certification requirement so that we avoid wasting time in constant iteration
